I think you will like the HM strat saijo. Welcome to the board!
Let us know what you think of the HM, it seems a slightly different guitar than the Ibanez...it is very versatile.

The only one I've ever seen with a pickguard has the Tele pickguard. Is that the one you're talking about?

The maple fretboard on my Strat HM feels a lot like the maple fretboard on an 88 RG-550. The necks are quite different since the Ibanez guitars all use variations on the Wizard neck and the Strat HM uses what is basically an American Strat neck. Yes, the Strat HM freboard is less rounded, but the back of the nexk feel is the 100% 90s Stratocaster.
Not sure about how the pickups will compare.
Weight and balance should be about the same.
The Ibanez RG's can actually be tougher to play since the trem sits way low into the guitar and even if you take the middle pickup down from the strings the RG always felt a little more constricted as far as where your pick hits the strings when you are palm muting.
