I put an SD Invader in my 88 and the pole pieces came up way short. I'm no expert but I'm thinking F spaced is the way to go. Also, the invader sounded a little muddy hope this helps.

The F stands for 'Fender'. Fenders have a bit wider neck. The HM is even wider compared to the stratocaster necks, but I guess F spaced would fit.

Hi, I checked two of my Super 3's in HM's.
They are both basically F-spaced. All the strings match the pole pieces except for the bottom E string, which sits a little off-center (towards teh outside).
FWIW, I've never been able to hear any difference when using an "incorrectly" spaced pickup. I think it's all marketing hype unless you've got a pair of ears like Eric Johnson.

Oh also, the Super 3 was designed specifically for the HM, so you shouldn't have any trouble with spacing.

Yes, the Kahler Spyder 2720, which is the stock bridge for the HM Strat is F-spaced. Some people say the 'F' stands for 'Fender', while others say it's 'F' for 'Floyd Rose'. Generally though, you can think of it as 'Floating Tremolo' - as in, if you have a floating tremolo, you want F-spaced pickups.
Incidentally, the Kahler Spyder has the exact same post spacing as all of the '90s Jackson guitars with 'Professional' painted on the headstock, and also the DK2 and DR3 from the same era. The Jackson guitars are all equipped with a Jackson made-in-Germany-by-Schaller licensed Floyd Rose trem, which lends credence to the theory that the 'F' stands for 'Floyd Rose' spaced, and not 'Fender' spaced. I wanted to install an old Spyder to check the string spacing, but could not because the Kahler is larger than the cavity of a stock Jackson from that era. Looks pretty close though - essentially the same, if not exactly the same.
For your replacement, I recommend the Dimarzio Tone Zone, F-spaced. It's a bit like the Super-3, but somewhat more modern while still capable of producing that '80s kind of rock-tone. Whatever you get though, yes, F-spaced.
