Ok, my HM Strat is supposed to have a 25.5" scale neck. It measures 25.5" (roughly) from the nut to the bridge. But, shouldn't it measure 12.75" at the 12th fret? Half the total scale? What am I missing here? I'd like to know how to figure the scale of a neck by itself, without it being mounted on a guitar. Here's what I get at the 12th fret of my Purple HM: Measuring from the nut:

Which HM have you measured here? I thought Hms had 25 scale length. So you should be looking for something like 317mm or so from the nut.

This is my Purple "Tele" Style HM. Major malfunction on my part here. For some reason I had 25.5" in my head... So, according to the Wiki entry, they had 25.15" scale necks, which would make my measurement almost spot on. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I doubt that Wikipedia entry is correct, Bo. I have seen Fender documentation saying 25" and 25.1", but never 25.15.
There's another entry on Wikipedia which states the HM necks are 12.5" which is clearly wrong as well.
There's a 1992 ad (which I think beast sent me) on the main site which lists the HM's as 25.1". Teh Japanese HM Manual says 25".

25.1 for MIJs and 25 for USAs. All pamphlets & posters I have for both MIJs and USAs state the above scales. I have a USA neck on a MIJ body (and vice versa) and there appears to be no difference or it is negligible. Could be that Fender intended the HM to be 25" scale so that is what they used initially in all of their literature, but it later turned out to be more like 25.1" and they corrected it on the MIJs literature or they could have just adjusted the actual scale for the MIJs for some unknown reason. Like the Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop ad says, "The world may never know!".

Then PRS came along and made the 25" scale guitar really popular - but our HMs were first!

Somebody else had a 25" scale, but I can't think of who it was off hand. Jim, There is this website which has a download to figure out scale lengths. I haven't tried it myself. But here it is: fret-calculator.software.informer.com/

Off the top of my head it's a 25" or 25.1" scale length, 17" radius (right, guys?), a sort of U-shape profile with rounded shoulders. Maybe someone here would measure their necks thickness for you....

As you can see in my first pic, it's exactly 12.55 to the center of the 12th fret, which makes it 25.1" scale, which is the number I used to set my bridge posts.
Spot on.
