Kahler Spyder Question

Well today at a somewhat local guitar center I played a 1989 Peavey Tracer woth a Khaler. It had something I had never seen. On the Khaler it had smaller sized fine tuners that could not be removed.

In my experience '88-'89 HMs have Kahler Spyders with small fine tuners. The '89-'90 HMs have Kahlers with large FR type tuners. I had always seen small fine tuners until I bought the redstone I posted yesterday in the contest. I actually asked the seller if he had retrofitted the tuners with larger ones maybe with the help of a machine shop. The guy gave me a smart ass answer that yep that is what he did. I later found out that the tuners came in two styles depending on the year the Spyder was produced. I have purchased other HMs with large tuners on them as well and they are also '89-90 models. So I came to the conclusion that Kahler upgraded Later HMs tuners to be more like a FR size fine tuner. This is just my experience with that conundrum. Someone else on the board may have a better answer. Maybe someone could ask the guy at Wammi World about the reasoning behind it and time frames for the appearance of the varying tuner sizes.

Well, I never knew that! Both my HMs have the small fine tuners, like the ones in the picture. They are both '87 strats, so that would make sense!

I have one Kahler Spyder I got in trade that's in not so good cosmetic shape. I'm just keeping it around for parts. When I tried to use one of the fine tuners, I found out that it has the larger tuners. I think it's an '89.

Both my HM's have the large fine tuners (I think).

I never knew they ever had smaller ones.

Same except for the fact I still need to get a HM strat..... My Peavey has the Large
