Nope, Tommy you are not cynical.
I had EXACTLY the same thoughts as you. I asked through Ebay messages if he'd sell neck and a body as a package, and I said reason was because neck and body only fit each other. Other necks and bodies do not work with the HM neck or body.
No response yet.
I was thinking of bidding on a marble body to temporarily replace the one I painted myself.
PS, sad thing is, I doubt the average ebay knows that the HM neck is about 25 inch scale not 25.5 inches, or that it only really works on an HM stat. Makes me really annoyed!

Nick,
LOL, I was about to do EXACTLY the same thing - e-mail him, point out that an HM neck would only ever match a HM body and ask if he would do the two together buy-it-now. A nice present/ project for Xmas.
Then I saw someone had put a bid in on the neck and I became disappointed, cynical & annoyed (or maybe I've always been like that!).
Cheers, T.

Maybe if you mail him too, he'll realise that we're correct!!

Sounds like we're all on the same wavelength guys!
At first I thought here was a chance to get an Hm project but like you say, no good if someone else gets the neck.
There is no other reason to do this other than to try and force you to bid more for the parts to make a useable guitar. We all know the chances of getting another neck (or body for that matter) is slim.
I wouldn't bid on it out of principle.

Aaarrrggghhh! The neck has now gone up to £90.51.
If this is 'one of us' trying to make something whole out of it I'm more than happy to stay out of the way.
Otherwise I might have a go at one of the bodies - they both appear to have the DiMarzio Super 3 - mine doesn't, it has the Fender (?) humbucker so I might be interested.
The one with the bridge looks in better nick, and spares are useful, but, again, I don't want to get in the way if someone wants the whole thing (maybe the guy with the neck!?!?). I might go for the more bashed-up/ cheaper one?? (but I'm not looking for a bidding war!)
Out of interest, there is also a Squire HM strat (Korean ~89?) that comes up on Monday - I wonder if that neck would fit??
Argh! T.

I was thinking of bidding on the "unbridged" marble body like I said. I doubt the seller is one of us guys, else they'd probably have chimed in. Not too many UK owners anyway here. I don't need the body though, so if you do, bid away. I have not bid on it yet.

Can't say for sure without researching Tommy, but I'd be REAL surprised if any Squiers were made with the HM scale length!

heem6 - yeah, you're right of course. He says it's 22 fret so that does look unlikely. Nick - I've put in a bid (well it is Christmas!). Cheers, T.

Saw your bid, Tommy. As you know, a proper intact HM goes fro £250+ normally, so you may do well if you bid on both and win both at anything below that. Reckon neck'll go for £120 ish +, beaten up body for at least £60-£80, if anyone else bids on it. Total guesses!

crumbs - yep that was me - the 'unbridged' one - the other one also went for the starting price, that may have been a better buy but someone else got there first and I wasn't going to 'argue', I kinda hope it was the guy who got the neck, as you say...'wow'! Looking at the seller he seemed to have a photographic business so I don't know that he would have deliberately dismembered an in-one-piece guitar for parts but it's a funny old world. (I think my wife is going to be even more impressed that I am buying bits of guitars now - "But do you really need..... that?"). LOL. Cheers, T.

Congrats, Tommy. Would you consider posting pictures here of your work in progress? I'm sure everyone would love to follow along.
I've rebuilt a couple HM's myself so feel free to contact me if I can be of any help.

Congrats on winning that Tommy. Glad you got it and for a good price too. Hope a neck turns up for you soon.
