You're right there guys, you gotta judge with your ears not your wallet!

Glad you like it!
I'd love to try out some of their Strat sets sometime. They sound great in the clips on their website.

Those clips do sound good Jim, and again great prices! I'm so impressed with the Rocksong that I've just ordered an AC2(alnico II classic). It may end up in my HM as the Super 3 has gone microphonic and is howling like a wolf. I've put the cold sweat in it for now and it actually sounds better in the HM than it did in my Stormshadow, but I'm in the mood for experimenting at the moment so plan to chop and change a bit. To be honest, the Super 3 was so powerful that I had to turn the gain down on the amp when I swapped from my other guitars to the HM! It did sound good though......I'm tempted to have a go at wax potting it. Has anyone tried this? There's a few sites that run you through the process and it doesn't look too difficult if you're careful. ;D

Never tried it, but seriously, if EVH could do it in a coffee can, it CAN'T be that difficult! lol
Also, you can usually find the Super 3's cheap - around $40 used, in good shape if you look a bit.

Thanks for the info Jim, I'm currently over the moon with the cold sweat installed from my Stormshadow believe it or not! It sounds so much better in the HM for some reason. Strange...... I'm think I'm gonna have a go at this wax potting lark, I'm a tinkerer by nature; although not always a succesful one lol!

Hey Stratz, if you have time, you should do a thread documenting the process with some pictures and stuff. I'm sure people would be interested in reading about it, even if it doesn't work out.

I've potted a few. It is not hard, but takes a bit of skill. My second attempt ruined a cheap Squier Tele bridge, cause I pulled it out the bath by one of the hookup wires, using needle pliers, which completely detached the wire from the pickup! The tiny tiny tiny filament from the windings to the wire snapped. No hope of me repairing that one.
Also it can affect the tone of the pup, I found my attempts "locked up" some openness. Maybe it was me imagining though!
I amed my mix by chopping up a lot of "Bolus" (?) household candles (parrafin ones). They are in a red box and look very pale/white. I potted another pickup a while ago and put some beeswax in. Supposed to make it a bit more viscous/get into the gaps or whatever.

Thanks for that Nick. I tried a few hardware shops yesterday for some paraffin wax but no joy. I've since found a 1kg (2lb) bag of paraffin wax granules on Amazon for £6 so I'm probably going to order some of those. I don't think you're imagining the change in tone, I believe wax potting does affect it and some people avoid potted pups for that reason. I guess if your playing lower volume/gain styles you can get away without it but not for raucous 80's metal covers! I like to hear guitars feedback and squeal but only when the player intends it!

Hah...yup. Isn't Amazon amazing? Paraffin granules on amazon? Crazy. Let us know how yer experiment goes... (PS I found that after one potting session you can use the wax again, as it just hardens, you can reheat as necessary.)
