Wow. It's that time again. I'm amazed. After what I went through on the last one, I thought I was all done assembling/building/rebuilding guitars. But...
Some things kind of came together recently (availability of tools, work schedule, etc.) and I started rebuilding the second HM Strat I had sitting around in the spare bedroom /parts room /wretched bottomless canyon of filth.
Went up to my friend's house today and we used his drill press to punch out the holes for the inlays. (This is the 2nd of the 2 necks that I got from Halo that was Yngwie'd to death.)
I came home and put the inlays in with some Super Glue. Now the fretboard will need to be glued onto the rest of the neck. My friend is going to Europe for 2.5 weeks, so I took the opportunity to borrow wood clamps and fret cauls. In return, I got stuck babysitting his son's fish. I'm not sure, but he might have got the better of that deal!

Well, I've decided it's not going to look right with the blue vinyl decal and the white sides and back.
I'm going to finish the neck and if it turns out good, then I'll probably buy a guitar body from KNE Guitars. Probably an Alder Dinky style. A friend of mine dyed a Stratocaster copy that he made (below) a cherry red color and topped it with Tung Oil. I'm planning the same thing, but in Royal Blue.

that red thing is pretty cool looking. looks like ash to me(baseball bat). i keep forgeting about those single coil pickup rings...no need to worry about clean routes with those! must try dying wood soon. a dyed neck might be pretty interesting

Glued the ebony fretboard to the neck awhile back and had just clamped it down when I noticed there was a gap between the fretboard and neck. Just barely had time to peel off the fretboard before it had set completely.
Had tried to use a little less glue this time and minimize seepage, but ended up not using enough glue instead.
Sanded off the glue residue and had a fellow guitar builder help me clamp it up today. Between us, we managed to keep the fretboard positioned correctly on the neck while clamping it into place.
The neck had some relief even while truss rod was loose, so the guitar shop I go to recommended clamping everything to a flat surface. Said that would be enough to flatten everything out by the time it dries.
Managed to find a truss rod nut from Music Parts Guru and put a piece of tape over the nut so that hopefully no glue gets into the truss rod cavity that is exposed. Used a Dremel to carve out a small contour on the bottom of the fretboard to accomodate the exposed nut.

Am planning to watch the neck over the next week or two and make sure it retains the flat plane and that the truss rod works properly. If everything's a go, I will probably order one of these Soloist-style bodies for it.
The guy at KNE Guitars, Mitch, built a body for me before and I'm pretty sure he won't have a problem making this body a 25" scale for me.
Excited because this will be my first HM with a Floyd Rose instead of a Kahler on it. I also have a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop EVH waiting to put in it.

It's been almost a year since I've worked on this project!
Got the neck checked out by professionals and the fretboard install turned out fine. Got frets installed tonight. Will wait a day or two for them to set, and then clip off the ends and do a leveling.
Then it's off to CA for this neck. Mitch at KNE is going to build that body for me and paint it Metallic Royal Blue.DON'T DRINK AND FRET!!24th FRET INLAYS!!SOME SHARP FRET ENDS!!

Moving slowly - got sidetracked with a couple other projects. Sanded about 20 years of grime off the back of this neck today and filed down and rounded off the fret ends on one side of the neck.
