I personally don't like black pickguards on any guitar, regardless of body colour, they just never look right to my eyes, although I think the smaller Tele style guards don't look as bad in black.
Mint green might look good, it would certainly be different!
Do you know anyone who can photoshop? That way you could mock up different colour guards to help you decide.
