I'm looking for an HM neck or information on how to get a suitable replacement. I scored a HM body back a while back and I've been on the lookout for a neck for some time. I've only seen a couple on flea-bay and people are spending stupid money on them. The body I have has seen better days, and I'm not interested in taking out a loan to get a neck that fits. I'm not picky, I'd just like something that'll fit. Nothing I've got is wide enough at the heel to fit the 2-11/32nds wide...neck pocket. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike

I have the reverse problem. I need a HMS body. Would you be interested in selling yours?

I recently aquired two HM necks, but both have issues. One was sanded down and not refinished so it looks like a mechanic was playing it for years, and it's also missing a chunck of rosewood just past the 24th fret. The other neck had a floyd nut installed (screws go in from rear of neck) but the person who installed it didn't know what he was doing. First he installed the wrong size, and second the nut is off center...

I thought a few pics of the necks I'm talking about above should be in order... The first one.. And the other... After checking and rechecking, the nut is the right size, just not centered correctly. I'm still not sure how I'm planning to correct the problem. I'll probably drill the holes larger (and straight) to put plugs or dowels in and seal up the wood, and go back to the original Kahler nut.

By far your best bet is to just finish sand your unfinished neck and then put a couple coats of tung oil on it. Find a piece of rosewood, sand some off and use the dust mixed with some wood glue to make "filler" for the dent in the neck. They are 25" and/or 25.1" necks and realistically you're never going to find one of the same scale length for a reasonable price. To put a regular 25.5" inch neck on that body you'd have to install it a half inch forward in the neck pocket and you definitely don't want to do that. Should be easy to work with that first neck, though.
Post more pics as you work on it!

I'm considering replacing the fretboard on the first with a maple board. Would you know if the fretboards from Stew Mac will work? they Have a maple 25.5 compound radius board, or a flat maple fretboard that is made for PRS 25" scale. Both have 24 slots and no inlays, so I will be able to do the 10 inlays on the 24 fret neck just like Fender did back in the day...

The truth of the matter is that the one with the mangled holes is actually in much better condition and has a US serial #. Both have the same stamp EST556HMR So I'm guessing they are both USA necks. I'm really torn, so for now I'll keep both and get them both in working order. Any idea's on what the code is? Also would you know if any US Strats had a Floyd Rose instead of the Kahler? The body I picked up is the black marble, but I'm fairly certain I'm going to sand that down and paint it some other color like orange and black and put a silver HD logo on it just because I don't know anyone who will be able to recreate the original paint job.

The 25" scale one should work. Just measure it out carefully, it will sit 0.1" closer to the bridge than the existing fretboard.
