i got it because of the color, i won't change it and don't plan on selling it.
since i got this one i've learned a good bit about these. turns out there is a type 1 and a type 2, maybe even more. the type 1 has the three knobs, a five way, a coil tap thing or was that the tb circuit and a kahler, the type 2 has two knobs a five way and a floyd.
the pink guitar really started to get on my nerves due to the placement of the volume knob. so i decided to forgo the first tone and move the volume there.
so i researched and notice that some hm strats only have two knobs, hmmmmmm, futhermore it looked like the volume was not directly under the hb.
about the time i was working on moving it, i'll be damned if a white maple neck type one didn't appear on the web for 325 shipped! white just happened to be my second choice. maple was always first choice but i would have grabbed a rw if that was what showed up, so total bonus on the maple boards.
so now i have two and can say the type 2 is preferred but i play the crap out of both of them.

Wow! So you have two now?? Awesome! Post pictures of both beauties together.
I agree with you though that sometimes (palm muting) the volume knob position is awkward.

here is a picture of the quiver. the pink is what i got from asintoras and the white from a music go round in chicago. they are both awesome. the pink is a hair better player becuase she got a fret job. the white has much much less playing time but needs a fret level to be perfect. pink has a spyder, white has ofr. the volume knob is also moved just .....oh wait, i mentioned that already, anyway...
