As far as anyone can tell, does that look like the standard HM shape? Looks like it to me. I have seen other pics in the past but of course I couldn't really recall from memory a lot of the details. What I had remembered was the split tri inlays, the ebony fretboard and the others I've seen had the burst finishes. One I recall seeing on eBay a few years ago had a red burst finish. I didn't like it. To me, the burst finishes don't really go with the HM theme or fit the fretboard design. Maybe I'm just too used to seeing the standard HM's and the Jackson soloist which, the Ultra is sort of cross of the two in a way. Now, the darker finish burst in the pic above looks a little cooler then the red one I say before. I'm still thinking I'd like to get about a 90 or 91 Olympic White standard HM body with the original knobs and hardware and mate it to this neck I have. btw, I had started a thread on the lynch board as well: www.lynchforum.com/lynchforum2/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1875

I found another picture and will post when I get a chance. I also asked for more pics of one I found on a forum that sold years ago, and the former owner promised to send some.
For me, the regular HM Strat body would seem like a good replacement. Definitely gotta keep us posted on this project!

Hey Caine,
Here's one picture. Wish it was bigger. I had actually run across that somewhere but it's good to have to here in this thread. It looks like the one I saw on FEE bay a few years ago but the headstock was messed up. I getting the idea that all of the Ultras where some sort of burst finish which, if so, that doesn't make sense to me. Seems like they could or should have come in solid colors as well.

Another pic of a/the red burst ultra. Sure they made em in blue too. Another Ultra: Ultra neck and headstock: Knob alignment doesn't look like yours caine, as you said.

Hey Nick, nice find on those pics!
Seeing these Ultra's has inspired me to hunt for some Lace Sensor Holy Grails for my project HM. Since the new fretboard is ebony, maybe I'll make it into a pseudo Ultra. I don't think I'm gonna be able to do those fret markers, though! haha. Bought one Holy Grail on the Telecaster forum yesterday for $40 shipped.

In that pic of the Ultra headstock you can clearly see that the nut lock is a Kahler (Floyd Rose lic). I have the Kahler Steeler trem on my '91 HRR Stratocaster and it has that same lock. One why you can spot the Steeler (vs. the OFR) is it does not have that threaded doo-dad that sticks up from the main body of the unit where you attach the handle like the OFR does. There is just a threaded hole because the Kahler arm screws into the body not unlike it does on other Kahler tremolos.

I was looking again at that "budweiser promo" guitar via the link earlier in this thread which is located on the old forum. There was some question about the serial number and dating the guitar. The only thing I could find that was consistant with an "E" followed by six digits was MIJ serial dating with E followed by six digits referring to MIJ from 84-87. Anything else I've found with E was with only five digits and that was made in the US and there was another character after the E before the rest of the number sequence. So perhaps the mysterious budweiser guitar was made in Japan in the 80's??? www.fender.com/support/japanese_instruments.php

Somewhere it seems like I read that the "budweiser" promo guitar was basically made from leftover parts of from parts intended for other guitars or projects. If so, then I wonder if some of those "leftover" bodies were donated to a school like a bunch of the HM Ultra necks apparently were. This could explain how the Ultra neck ended up on a "budweider promo" guitar body as I posted earlier in this thread. Look at the post by "deafinoneear" towards the bottom of this thread: acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2444858 He has a homemade guitar with an Ultra neck on it. Says he got if from his father in law that was a woodshop teacher and Fender donated 100 (what appear to be) HM Ultra necks to his woodshop/guitar making program.
