Played one of these vintage Hamer Californian Deluxes at guitar store the other day. Sweet axe. Build quality superb and felt frikken solid! Stock pickups were amazing. Hamer says that Seymour Duncan made them to Hamer's specs. Ibony fretboard and I think solid maple body. Pretty thick neck, but comfortable 1 5/8" wide. Really, really liked this guitar. I think they can be had relatively cheap ($300) on the used market. Quite a deal for Made in USA axe this good.

Jim, if you can find a Hamer Cali for $300. You'd better snap it up! Those are not cheap guitars bro! The one in the pic does not have "USA" after the Hamer logo either. That one may be a copy?!?

I don't know a lot about them, but I get a sense there were a lot of different models of the Hamer Californian. They still make one today, but it doesn't seem nearly as cool as this one.
I wish I had the money to snap it up right now!

I've always heard the brand and model name bandied about on shred guitar forums and posts...about how great they were. They certainly LOOK cool. Probably an all out amazing shred machine.

Oh, I guarantee they were. I found out later this is the Deluxe version - all maple body, made in Korea. It rocked! It had a curiously fat C-Shaped neck, but it wasn't all that uncomfortable. Definitely would've gotten a shave if I owned it, though! hahaha.

I was stoked to see an Hamer Cali pop up on Ebay near me for super cheap...but it must be one of the modern ones Jim mentioned...looked nothing like the one above, or the ones I've seen before. A more modern cash in on the name.
