Thanks, Beast! Yeah, I'll try to include that in the shots I take this weekend. Also gonna try to record a song to demonstrate how the Hot Golds sound.
Now that I have it together, one of the string lock allen holes is stripped, so I purchased a set of the chrome slotted ones on eBay.
Parts of the locking nut clamps are totally worn and won't hold the guitar in tune anymore - but that's not a problem as I'll be putting an R9 on it anyway.

I've often wondered how those hot golds sound. I like the single coil blue, gold, & silver Lace pickups for a good hot or not so hot strat sound. I have regular lace golds in the middle position on my HM Ultras and they sound good. I've tried them in the neck position and they don't sound as good there like the silver & blues do. Also, which pickup did you go with in the bridge position?

I put a Lace Red Dually in the bridge position. Everyone warned me I might not like it, but so far it sounds good to me.
It's wired with a three-way mini-switch that lets you play thru the rear-most single coil of the Red Dually only, then the middle position is both coils, and the forward position is the front single coil of the Dually only. It gets interesting when you move the regular 5-way switch to turn on both the humbucker and the middle pickup, and then you select the front coil of the humbucker. I put a TBX in instead of the regular tone control and with Doc's Mod on it and and a 500k volume pot, and the TBX functions like a presence control and really opens up the Hot Golds. I'm really impressed with the Hot Golds.

See I prefer a 250k volume pot for volume swells with the panky fanger. With the 500k it gets too loud too fast. My PRS has a 500k and I cannot do a volume swell so well (tee hee hee). Now my my 250k volume pot in the Redstone HM does them swell. (See what I did there with the double entendre and the other thing? Longfellow I tell 'ya. Longfellow.)

Pretty clever, Mr. Wordsworth!
My point of view is that a 250k Volume Pot grounds too much of the signal, weaking the output to the amp (losing gain) and also cutting off too much of the high end tone for my taste.
That being said, you can't get around 250k pots for that vintage Strat tone. But that's not a high gain tone in the first place.
The TBX tone controls are brilliant (IMHO) because they allow you to increase the load for the single coils and decrease the load for the Super 3 bridge pickup.
Question - how did a 250k volume pot get in your HM? Did you put it in there?

Ya' know what? I just looked at the volume pot on the redstone, which is stock, and it says "90 K" on it. There are some serial numbers above it, 584072. The knob on this pot is also easier to turn, as are all my HMs, than the pots on the Setneck Floyd Rose Strat and the PRS. Because they are hard to turn this also makes them impossible to do volume swells with ma panky. I think I assumed the redstone HM had a 250k volume pot because of the more gradual volume increase it has than the 500k has that I bought for my PRS. I remember now that the dude at the local music store stated that 500ks are generally for volume pots and 250k for tone knobs. I looked at the schematics and sure enough HMs all have 500k volume pots. I stand corrected (schooled).
I wonder why the HM's volume pot is more gradual than the PRS 500k? Is it the strength of the pickups causing this?

I've read comments from guys discussing this same issue but with their amps volume control. There was some kind of mod they did so that the volume control didn't go to 80% of full volume in the first two notches. I seem to remember people there complaining about Fender amps doing this, but I'm not 100% sure it was Fender.
I'll wait for someone to chime in on the subject that knows more than me.
However, in the meantime - have you ever tried a 1mg pot on a guitar with a high-output pickup?

Here's a couple of better shots I took of "The Horror" yesterday.

Here's a couple of better shots I took of "The Horror" yesterday. That tremolo is the sh_t! I like the traditional style Strat knobs as well. Just my opinion, but you need to paint the headstock white and place an old style Fender Spaghetti logo on her too, with a side order of chrome tuners. Then the white lady would be rockin' her finest. Maybe your not done with her and you have something like that planned. I'm not sure. Just a thought.

I agree with the white headstock and chrome tuners, but I would slap a black copy of the original "Strat" logo on it. ;D
Absolutely beautiful resurrection!

Thanks, guys.
I was really lucky to find that tremolo on eBay. It was $90 and pretty much mint condition. I am finishing the headstock later this week (hopefully), and we will find out how it turns out. I also have a surprise for the back cavity cover - hmmm, what could that be?
In the meantime, here's a sample of how those Hot Golds sound through my Roland Cube's clean channel.soundclick.com/share?songid=9044642

Man, I sure never thought that thing would turn out looking that nice! Especially the way it was abused in its prior life.

Hey Gary - if you had to guess, how long would you say the pieces of this guitar were sitting in that guy's basement in Atlanta before you got them?

A few years. He had played guitar then switched to bass years back and had the 2 HM's and the Kramer in parts in a box packed up. I still got the original pics from when I got them. lol For comparisons sake....here they are! lol before any sanding, refinishing etc.... and yes, this is the way I got the necks! dude tried to scallop them himself...
