Ahh, that's a stinker. Well, live and learn as they say.

Took my guitar to the shop today and there is one thing I missed - apparently you're supposed to "pre-radius" your frets before installing. What if it is a compound radius. How do you raduis your frets then. Huh. Huh.

Checked out the paint job today. It's painted and has the first coat of gloss on so far. Looking good. Next step is for the shop to apply the waterslide decal and to then finish off the clear coating.
Haven't heard back from the guy with my neck yet. (It's a different shop.)

Got the neck back and re-installed the frets. The guy at the shop was nice enough to pre-bend the wire for me. Think the frets are all okay this time.
Still have some major work to do though - The fret ends are going to take quite a bit of sanding to get even with the neck. These are really tall frets so when I do the fret level I'm going to shave a lot off. Then crown and dress them.
Tomorrow evening I'm taking it up to the shop to have my work checked out and to give the guy some Floyd Rose saddle shims for my other HM. We'll see about getting the radius straightened out on the bridge.

Took my neck up to the shop tonight and he said my fret install looked really good - except for one. It was one I had already identified and tried (with only partial success) to hammer in farther. I paid him $5 and he took it out for me right there with a soldering iron and with no damage to the fretboard at all. I also offered him $5 to borrow his fret nippers for a couple minutes and trimmed all the edges off the fret ends. That will save me hours of filing!
I'm going to re-install that last fret in a few minutes and I'm excited about this neck again!
Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the painted body for this neck this weekend.

Spent the evening watching movies and finishing this neck. Taped off the fretboard and then did a level, crown and polish. Took some 60 grit to the back of the neck and cleaned off 20 years of accumulated grime. Went over that with 220 and finished with 0000 Steel Wool. Damped it down and went over it with the steel wool again. Then I rounded off all the fret edges. Applied another coat of Fret Doctor to the fingerboard. Last, I applied a coat of Tung Oil to the back of the neck and headstock - waited ten minutes and buffed it out. It looks a lot cleaner now.
A friend of mine is having some vinyl stickers printed up and I designed a logo for the headstock. Those should be done by midweek, and the body should be wired up and ready to go by then also.

Picked up the finished body tonight at the shop and got home around 6:30. I ate and had this assembled and playing decently by 8:30. Installed shims on the Kahler bridge, shimmed the neck as I put it in, installed the tuners, lined up the strings and installed the bridge. It sounds great - now I'll start tweaking the setup. In a few days the headstock will get a "finish" and I'll replace the Kahler locking nut with a Floyd R9. For now, here's some "Sneak Preview" pictures of this guitar...The Real Sammy and The Horror

Thanks, Bo! The clean single coil sounds (but with no noise) and really impressing me on this guitar.
Your dog must be very cool with that name!

The chrome Kahler looks sweet on that white body and pickups and everything.
What tuners do you have on there?

I'll take some better pictures this weekend so you can really see the Kahler and stuff. Those are the oriiginal Gotoh tuners.

The Horror looks great! I like the white matching pickups. You gonna replace those black Gotohs? Maybe get some white ones? LOL
Jim, could show us a couple of photos of the top and bottom sides of your neck? As I recall you had to remove the old fretboard and some of the neck to repair it. That would show that those gouges were eliminated.
