That looks good. I like it much better than the black one.
Have you considered doing a Strat style clear pickguard? That might look kinda cool.

Bo that looks great. If you scratched the pick guard making it, make sure you leave the protective layer of vinyl on the acrylic while your making it. I have found plexiglas is too brittle, That's why I use acrylic, It's a little more plyable. You can take a sanding block or a Dremel with a sanding drum to bevel the edge of the pick guard like the original. Anyway great job! I've broken/cracked a few pick guards too trying to cut them out, so don't get discouraged.

Thanks guys! I found the thicker Plexi first, then I got the thinner Acrylic, which will be much easier to work with for sure. I pretty much planned on this one being just a first try so I'll be much more careful when I do the final. I just wanted a template for the humbucker. I'll unstring it when I get the good one done so I don't scratch it. Thing about a Stratocaster style pickguard, would require drilling more holes, and I don't want to do that. I'd like to keep it as "original" as possible. Not that it matters much, since it's been painted 10 times already.

Bo, I felt the same way as you did. I just wanted to see more of the paint instead of covering it up with a drab black pick guard. I also needed something to fill in the screw holes. It looks ragged if you don't have them do their job of holding something on the body or to leave them off & have gaping holes in the body for everyone to see. That is why I kept the original shape of the tele style pick guard the HM came with. The clear pick guard also gave me an opprtunity to mod my HS HM into an HH which I was more than happy to do as my experince is that Lace Sensors are weak. Let us know how the new attempt turns out. ;D

Let us know how the new attempt turns out. ;D I wouldn't describe Lace Sensors as weak even on a HM Strat, but I see your point. They are a different beast than normal single-coils and one either likes or hates the sound. I like, for me they make the HS Strat one of the most versatile guitars around!

Opinions. What are they like? I prefer Fender American single coils & SD Hot Rails over the Lace sensors for sound and power. As Humbuckers they are weaker than I prefer (e.g. SD SH-13s & Dimarzio Super 3,) and as single coils they still hav a little 60 cycle hum, even though that was what they were created to eliminate. Even Clapton went to the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups for his new signature model. Guess he didn't like the Lace sensors as much as the new noiseless pickups. Hey if Lace sensors float your boat, that's what counts.

Maybe this weekend I can get my Holy Grails wired up correctly and contribute to this discussion! (Even though they're not Sensors, they are Lace pickups anyway.)

Alright, here's my final effort, and I'm happy with it. It's not perfect, but it's much closer than the first one, and I didn't scratch this one. The first one took about 1 1/2 hours. This one took about 3 1/2 hours and it shows. Maybe not from the pics, but in person, it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. ;D

Excellent work, Bo! That looks awesome.
That was cool how you came and posted about it, found out it was routed for a hummer, got some suggestions on the pickguard, made it happen real quick and turned out something that cool!

Thanks Jim! I certainly appreciate the kind remarks. Some years ago I had a Washburn BT-2 that I made a pickguard for out of some Mirror replacement material I found at Walmart. It's really thin and you can cut it with scissors. I might just try one of those too.

You're welcome. Another cool thing you have as an option is to put something underneath that clear pickguard - like a piece of copper foil or even a picture.
Now, I'm not SURE that you'd want a picture of ME (with my movie-star good looks) on a picture underneath your pickguard, but you know - it IS an option.
;D ;D ;D

So, anyone want to take a stab at what year my "Tele" Style HM is?
I'd guess 1990-91?

I think lbeast sent me a Fender ad with that year model pictured in it.
Do you remember, beast?
