Dang...poor old girl. She's seen better days, but boy, I'll bet she can still sing!
So, if my lessons serve me correctly, this would be a later model, MIJ, since it has a Floyd?
Did they use a different nut for those? I ask because of the holes in the back of the neck behind the nut.
Also, it has a string retainer.?

I tend to think that all models were made in Japan and some assembled in the USA.
I've always read that they started in Japan (in 1987 or 1988), as an modernized version of the contemporary Strat.
Yes, the later models were the ones with the OFR's.

I just noticed that it's stamped "Made In Japan" on the back of the neck.
So it's possible, that the later ones, with the "MIJ" stamp, were assembled in the USA? Lol

Yeah, there's mutliple instances of them having a USA neckplate and a Made in Japan sticker on the neck. This looks to be one of them. Over the years Fender has allegedly skirted the limits of legality on what they label as Made in Another Country and Made in USA.

Oh man, I am almost tempted to buy and rescue that poor HM. Yeesh.
Incidently, it has suffered the exact same damage one of my HMs had (the one I painted). The huge crack from volume + tone knob socket. However, mine extended right from volume hole to input jack!
You can bet the guitar still sounds fine, even with the logo sanded off, dents all over. Fender build 'em tough. For some reason, HMs often pop up REALLY broken in and damag...uh....I mean, reliced.
Or heavily customised.

What Fender would do is have their staff breathe on the wood before it was shipped to Japan and that made it Made in USA! Yaaaaay!
