Does anyone know much about these guitars? How much this guitar would be worth?
I guy I work with brought one to work today, to show me how "hideous" the paint job is.
It's solid Pink with blue and purple splashes on it. Go figure, I like it. =D
Anyway, he said it was a gift to his wife, from one of her ex boyfriends before they were together.
It's clearly stamped "Handcrafted in the USA" on the back of the headstock and the neck looks to be one piece, and features a tilt adjustment screw, just like the HM's...
This thing is MINT. Absolutely gorgeous condition.
I found a manual in Peavey's Archives and specs are as stated:
Peavey Tracer II (1989) Compact Body Bilaminated Rock Maple Neck Maple Fingerboard 24 Nickel Silver Frets 15" Fingerboard Radius 24 3/4" scale neck One 12 Pole Distortion Class Pickup, with adjustable poles One High-Output Single Coil Pickup Volume/Tone/3-way Selector Peavey Power Bend Tremolo Graphlon Nut
They are indeed Made in the USA. I have been gassing for one for years but never found the right one at the right time.
The first models had the Vandenberg neck on them and were most likely a working man's version of the Vandenberg - which was also Les Paul scale length. The shorter scale length bothers some people and others don't have a problem with it. To me, the real estate gets pretty tiny in the upper frets.
Later versions had a different, but still nice, neck on them.
With a Kahler Spyder on them, I always figured this was the Peavey equivalent of an HM Strat. It even has the Dimarzio style bridge pickup.
A year or two ago they were selling for $125 on eBay, but lately prices have risen on all these 80's shredder guitars as the public finds out how much quality they can get in a used guitar from that era. I've seen guys asking $400 for them, but I think they are high - both the guys asking that price and the price itself!
There are several on eBay right now and most models with the Kahler are somewhere around the $100 range.
