Hi all, It's been a while since I've came on these forums, and the new look is good. Anyways, I have a question for Steven T or any one who can help. On the gallery page on his hm strat it says he replaced the kahler spyder with the kahler 2722. I was considering doing the same myself, but my question is, would it require additional routing to install that trem? And would it be any easier/cheaper to find one of those as opposed to getting a new spyder. Having thumb screws insted of the allen wrench bolts seems like a good idea.

There's still some Spyders around for sale, can't say I've ever looked for or seen any 2722's for sale, though.
What's wrong with your Spyder?
You can replace the bridge posts pretty cheap ($20), and those are the fulcrum points (knife edges) on that bridge, unlike a Floyd where you'd have to replace the entire bridge itself.

The 2722 drops right in with no mods. It is a little longer towards the back of the guitar than the stock trem, so you can't pull it back as far to raise the pitch, but dives and warbles (flicking the trem bar) are unaffected.
I am not 100% certain about where my 2722 came from. I was told it was from a Peavey Nitro or maybe a Kramer. The other guitar player in my first band traded it to me. It could have even been new.

The guitar only had 1 of the original knobs when I bought it. I went ahead and got a set of new Fender knobs for it.
I just bought my second Strat HM a few days ago. It had 2 complete knobs and 1 that is missing the rubber and F cap. But, now I have a complete set of 3 original knobs.
Will post pics of the second guitar soon. It an 89 or 90 in black with a rosewood fingerboard. Its currently in the "tlc" stage and not ready to meet the board.
