Yep, after a couple years playing on my HM Squier, I was a ble to buy my HM Strat. After getting taxes back I was giveo ahead to get another guitar. So I spent a week checking Fleabay, Craiglist, and a couple local shops. I had $1000 to spend and decided on this baby, at a $500 BIN with new hardshell case, the nice tolex covered panel case at that Its hard to believ this axe was made in 1989, there is absolutely no buckle rash and only the most minute and lightest of scratches, the Kaehler Floyd Rose is in perfect shape, no rust or any kind of aging of the bridge or the humbucker cover. I assume its the original Super 3 pup but it has a chrome cover with a sun etched in the middle of the cover...familiar to anyone? The neck has a few small dings, and varnish flaked off around the nut, and sides but I think a light sanding and refinish will fit the bill nicely. The maple fret board is great with no wear through the finish. The neck had a funny wave in it but I loosened the truss rod and it straightened up nice.
I don't know about the pups, I hate single coils any way, and the hummer just seems to have a kind of neutral sound...not to hot, but not terrible either, just not what I want. I want something that will really heat things up So I ordered a Dimarzio X2N, for the bridge, and four single spaced hummers to try out in the middle and neck. I got the Chopper for the middle and the Pro Track for the neck, along with a Tone Zone S, and Fast Track 2, incase the the Pro Track or Chopper not mix well. With any luck the pickups will get here this week and I can give a report on how that goes. The pick ups that are left over can go into my Squier, which will stay as a secong guitar tuned in Eflat.
The neck is way different than the Squier's. The Squier still has the sweetest feel, but I can get used to the Strat's no problem.
You can barely see the sun emblem here
Cool ass chrome pickup covers...honestly I have never seen chrome single coil covers but the clear knobs add a nice touch...gonna switch over to chrome knurled stell knobs though:thu:
backside here, as you can see this think never had a cover plate over the trem springs, someone painted the gut cover black and it has wore off on the end there. Also you can see the generic neck plate that also does not have the hole drilled in the bottom to allow you to use the micro plane adjustment on the neck. I ordered a new one and it just came in the mail today.
This is the blemishes on the neck I pointed out earlier. I'm going to sand the neck down and refinish later this Summer. I want to do it when its closer to 100 degrees outside so the finish will dry faster.
As you can see the nut is shimmed up to keep the strings from deadeneing out on the frets. Its a head scratcher for me, I wish I had another to compare it too to see if I just need to buy a taller nut or...what ever...
After all is said and done, I'm truly stoked about this axe, I want to really play it out but since my wife started working grave yard I'm having to find alternate schedules for playing, We live in a tiny two bedroom shit hole so I may have to wait until we move...hopefully within a couple of weeks, so I can really make this thing scream.
