Tomorrow night at a club in Tempe. I think they are building an outdoor stage on the backyard patio for them. I love the new album and am excited to be able to see RATT without having to suffer thru POISON as well!

Tomorrow night at a club in Tempe. I told you I was going to see Ratt open for the Scorps a few weeks back. Well I don't even want to get into what happened that night. Let's just say it didn't happen.

Great night!
Came in and there was a DIO cover band playing! So how can you not love that? Plus, the guitar player had a wireless system and came out into the crowd and was playing right in front of a guy in a wheel chair - who suddenly had front row seats.
There was a large outdoor concrete patio outside, and another band that wasn't all that noteworthy, but they had built a great stage for RATT. Scaffolding for lights and everything. RATT came on and started burning through "You're in Love." From there on it was a greatest hits concert. I was looking forward to seeing Carlos and he was great. The guy seemed completely at ease in the band and fit in great, taking turns at shredding. He played a red Flying V throughout the concert. The sound was messed up at first, as rain precluded a sound check, but the help got it straightened out eventually. The club was full - I'd say maybe a 1,000 people turned out, but we were way up front on Carlos' side. Hearing songs like "Lovin' You's a Dirty Job" was awesome, but I thought the band really flipped a switch and went into overdrive on the new songs. "Take a Big Bite" was great, and "Best of Me" was I thought the best of the night. Until they played "Eat Me Alive" as the last song of the night. I don't know man, the energy just ramped up and the uptempo song just electrified the joint. It was a great time. It wasn't perfect, but I felt really lucky to see - not the original, but a very, very good version of RATT. Will probably turn out to be the best concert of 2010 for me.

Jim,
You cruel bastard! You were supposed to say it got rained out, Stephen Pearcy shot you a bird, and called you a motherf@#er, as the tour bus squealed out & left you in a cloud of diesel dust. LOL
Glad it met your expectations bro. The Invasion of your Privacy Tour I saw in 1986 is one of the best concerts I ever saw, since it was their first headlining tour. The fact that I was sitting about 10 feet away from Warren the whole concert wasn't too shabby either.
How was Stephen's voice?

Stephen's voice wasn't too bad. You know, most of us (I'm sure you, too) don't expect a lot from him live, but he got through all the songs okay. He was straining a bit at times, and purposely sang some parts lower, but he talked to the crowd a little bit, seemed to be in great spirits, and had that trademark "sneer" in his voice that we all dig. There was people of all ages there (a lot of people in their 20's) and Stephen was saying how cool it was that some people in the front had brought their "rugrats."
One thing that was interesting was that there were spotlights on everyone else in the band, but when they put one on Pearcy at the beginning of the show, he told them to cut it, and was never spotlighted again.
So yeah, he was no Ronnie James Dio live (RIP), but he got through all the songs pretty well. Maybe a little better than when I saw them a couple years ago.
Man, I'm jealous of you getting to see them on the "Invasion" tour! How cool was that to see The King?!!

P.S. A lot of people think the Jackson King V was made for Dave Mustaine, but it was really created for Robbin "The King" Crosby.

Yep, the King V was named after "King". I got to see him play the famous 1985 white reverse headstock Jackson Catfish Firebird. At the time I didn't know what type of body style it was, I just knew it was one of the coolest guitars I had ever seen. Here is a pic.
