I got my Strat last Summer with hardshell case for $550 shipped off ebay. I know I could have gotten one a bit cheaper but this one just felt right. When it finally arrived I was astonished to see that it was in immaculate condition considering its age. Its a Bluestone version with Kahler Steeler bridge. The finish is virtually perfect right down to no buckle rash on the back. Mine came with chrome hardware, including a chrome steel bueaty ring for the humbucker. The knobs were replaced with clear hat style knobs and the humbucker has a chrome cover with Dimarzio's burning sun emblem etched in the center. Has anyone else seen one like this. I beleive its Super3 as it reads 24ohms on the multimeter.
The one bad thing was that the neck had spots where the finish had worn through on the sides and back, which really bugged me, I like smooth finishes on my necks. I was told by some to just leave it be, as the work might devalue the guitar, but I have no intention of ever selling this axe, so for me the positives out weighed the negatives on refinishing the neck. I also might add that I am an accomplished painter and finish carpenter, so for me it was just another piece of wood that needed some love and care to bring it back to asthetics.
I'm really happy with the results, I used a block on the edges so as to keep a nice straight line down the edge of the fretboard. I finished it with semi-gloss varathane, cause glossy necks can get hard to slide yor hand down when you sweat, and man did it bring out the beauty in the wood. Its got some birdeyes in it, with an awesome tiger stripped looked. Just gorgeous, I love it.
I swapped out the pups for an X2N in the bridge with a Chopper in the middle and a Pro Track in the neck. I am not big on single coils at all. For some reason, the caps and resistors in the pickup harness are gone. I will replace these next payday and who knows, maybe the Super 3 will end up back in it...I have a couple other single sized humbuckers to experiment with as well, a Tone Zone S, and a Fast Track 2. So far I like the pups it has now but replacing the caps and resitors may give me incentive to change it up a bit again.
