Hi all, I was pleasantly surprised by this forum. Apparently I'm not the only one with an HM strat :-)
Some facts about my HM strat (pics & serial will follow later):
I bought it in august 1989 (new) for about 900 EUR. It's a white guitar with maple fretboard and HSS pickups. All parts are original. It's a bit dinged up, but still in excellent condition, including the Spyder trem. The only thing that has ever been changed (except for the strings of course) is that I had some frets filed a bit by a luthier (bad factory assembly).
I did not play a lot on it over the years, but now I'm thinking of tuning it in drop C. Is this possible on these guitars?

Hi EdgeHog,
Welcome to the forum! Yep, we're all HM Strat lovers here.
Is that right that you bought your Strat used in 1999? Or was that supposed to be 1989?
I don't see why you couldn't do a drop tuning. If you get a lot of buzz you can shim up the nut a bit, raise the bridge and most of the guys who do that put on heavier sets of strings.
Look forward to pics and add'l info!

Hi Edgehog,
your axe sounds awsome. can't wait for a picture. i'd play with the truss rod (carefully!) and microtilt on the neck before using a shim which might hurt your sustain. yeah i agree, heavier guage strings might do some good too.

D'Oh! I was at work when I responded to this and totally spaced on the microtilt! Thanks for the reminder, Felony!

Hi and welcome, edgehog. I think definitely you can do C tuning on the guitars. I think it would sound very METAAAL! Of course you may have to adjust things as Jim says. Would love to see pics.
