I have a funny feeling this one came with the Floyd Rose Pro and nut. They were starting to make the production HM's with Floyd Roses by '91, so it wouldn't be a stretch. Also, they were custom ordered so it could've been ordered that way. Anyway, it's a pretty cool example.
Thanks for finding and posting about this rare beast!

Thanks for finding and posting about this rare beast! Yet every one we have seen so far is a Steeler. You can't change facts my good man.

I was showing a friend how cool it was to peruse the internet on my smart phone last night and found this auction as well. I said "See this is how you peruse the internet". I searched for hm strat and low and behold, mother f*****. Another GD blue hm strat ultra.
I think Jim is right. That ultra came stock with a Floyd Rose pro. I am now certain Caine was right when he said he saw an hm ultra with a Floyd Rose. For sure this seller saw the auction for the other blue hm strat ultra and said "Wow I can make a pretty penny for this old girl".
That's it. I'm painting mine lime green as we speak. By the way this took 80 years to type on my smartphone. [/b]

Hahaha. Too funny, El Beast.
Maybe a tip for you on that smart phone - I use the text to voice feature on mine and if I speak slowly and enunciate precisely, it works pretty good. Saves a lot of time typing.
It's sort of like NAMM this year. They created this whole event to show off new products to industry professionals. But now it's gotten so big that Gibson isn't displaying their guitars at NAMM - they're doing private shows for their dealers outside of NAMM!
Same with Smartphones. First we invented cell phones to talk to other people. Then we found a way to type our words so we wouldn't actually have to talk to those people. But that was too slow. Now we've found a way so we can speak our words and then convert them to text - to send over a telephone! When you absolutely positively don't want to speak to someone - use your cellphone!

I actually figured out the speak to text feature about halfway through the deal. You really don't want me typing like I actually talk. I write well beyond my speech capability. I talk likisshear, but I write like a scholar (in my mind). I exaggerate of course, or should I say, as usual.

She did. One bid for $995.00. That seems a little more reasonable than the $1280 we saw before. That was redonkulus.
We're going backerds Fist. We need higher prices.
I still haven't seen a tobacco burst Ultra for sale in a decade or so. Where dey at?

The Floyd on that guitar is most likely original. I have seen more than one Ultra with a Floyd instead of a Steeler. Also, the posts for a Steeler are spaced the same as the Floyd, however the recessed area around the trem is a little different. I know because I am in the process of swapping a Floyd Pro for a Steeler in a regular production HM. It is not an exact swap and I have to do some tweaking both to the recessed area around the trem—mainly making it wider on one side and a little longer in the area were the Allen screws stick out that hold the strings in place. the back side of the Kahler body is angled rather than 90 degrees like the Floyd--meanig the corners on the side where the six allen screws stick out. Also, in make the swap, that is a wider gap on one side in the recessed area so I might try to fill it in with a thin layer of wood filler or something to make it appear symmetrical. I also have to route the area out a tad where the block extends into the body to allow it a full range of motion. I will have to refinish the guitar because of the tweaks to the recessed area but the finish, which is that blue crackle, is a bit trashed anyway. I have used a Steeler for 20 years and I just like it better than the Floyd. Being that the blue ultra is clearly the original finish, it would be easy to tell if the trem was swapped out from a Kahler to a Floyd so I would say it is original.
