I'm having my stock Fender SCs replaced with DiMarzios (Air Norton and Fast Track). The tech noticed that the wire that routes through the normal cavity is much thicker than the stock wires. This makes it nigh impossible for the middle pickup to be mounted flat. His 1st idea was to carve a small groove to seat the wire.
I've seen the same pickups in HM's before, so I wonder how you guy would recommend base on your experience.
Any bright ideas?

I don't think it would hurt anything if you cut a shallow groove into the wood body in the bottom of the pocket, so the pickup clears the wires.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
