You could blow up the Kaiser lettering and put it acroos the top of the guitar so people could see it.

LOL
Thanks guys!
I sanded a bit tonight, but I don't have fine enough paper to go over the main body. I knocked down the contours though, as the "Ball Nosed End Mill" left some substantial grooves, and that worked nicely.
I'll get some 600 (as suggested by our polishing pro) and finish it up.
Any thoughts on a protective coating?
I have the option to get it "Electroless Nickel Plated". It's the shiniest plating we get on our parts. It's not as shiny as the body will be by polish alone, but I fear I won't be able to keep up the sheen without a coating...

I got some finer grit sandpaper tonight and I'll give the body a once over tomorrow after work, and start polishing again.

Ok, I cut the whole body with 400 grit sandpaper and got all (99%) of the machine marks out of it. Then I went over it with a Scotch Brite pad to smooth it out. Then I started with the coarsest grit polishing compound we have and moved on to the finest. I just found out today, that we're out of the finest grit compound that we usually carry, but it's on order. It's about time to bring it home again, and get my own little kit. It's hard to get nooks and crannies with 12" polishing wheels. I still have a way to go, but you'll notice everything is EVEN now anyway.

Every new set of pictures I'm just going, "Wow." It's starting to look very sharp!
Would a clear polyurethane coat work on aluminum?
P.S. What kinda dog you got there, Bo?

P.S. What kinda dog you got there, Bo? Yup, it's gettin there. People often do clear coat polished aluminum, from what I've gathered, but the body is modular and, two pieces need to be taken off to add the electronics, so it would "break" the finish. I've read that polish followed by wax will prevent the loss of shine, so I'll go that route for now and see how it goes. Sammie is half Border Collie and half Brittany Spaniel. She's a total sweetheart.

A good friend of mine had a Brittany Spaniel years and years ago. "Blue" was a great dog. We would come home drunk and watch TV and Blue would always lay on the floor with us and let me use her as a head rest without complaining or moving.

DONE... I sanded again, with 600, then 1500, and final polished. It still has some haze, and you can see some hairline scratches from sanding, but it's better than it was, and I've lost my desire for perfection. I'm sick of sanding and polishing...it's done and it plays great. It sounds much better than now that I deepened the pickup pockets for some reason. It's not perfect, but it's pretty dang shiny... EDIT: One thing to note here is that all the hardware is in "mint" condition. I bought the LTD new, and it was in a case the whole time I've owned it, (when not being played of course) so the hardware and neck is pristine, which accents the body nicely. ;D
