I'm gonna do it...
Tonight I'm going to break down my white HM and start modeling the Spyder, which will take quite a bit, since there's so many parts.
I wish I could find a 3D model of it already done, but I've had no luck.
I'll keep you all updated.

Yup, seen that, but unfortunately there's no dimensions.
It shouldn't take that long really, I just need to make sure it's right.
This will be a bit harder to get mocked up in 3D than a Tune O Matic.

It will be at least twice as hard since you not only have to route a top recess but also a trem cavity underneath!
Well, at least the robot will be doing most of teh hard work. haha. (Just kiddin!)

Rockin right along...
This is rough, but I think it's all I need.
After much thought, all I need to get right is the trem bolt spacing (width), and the distance from the nut to the trem bolts, as far as the trem is concerned.
I thought I needed to draw the whole trem, but thankfully, I don't think I do...
At this point, the only thing I'm worried about...is how to drill and tap the spring retainer bolt holes.
It took about 2 1/2 hours to draw this up.
Anyway, I thought of a cool idea for the back of the body, where the neck mounts... have to wait and see. ;D

Gahh! The HM bodies are 1.75"!
So, the top plates need to be .75" thick instead of .5" as they are now.
Pesky trem...you will not defeat me! ;D
Anyway, I'm done with the critical parts of the neck.
I know, it's rough looking, but the important stuff is there.
I'm not going to waste time on "foo foo" details this time, just the critical stuff.
By the way, I'm using parts from my Purple HM, not my white one. I just can't bring myself to take it apart.

Finally got the neck assembled onto the body, as well as the trem.
I only have the top portion of the trem pocket cut at this point, trying to get everything aligned.
The dimensions are correct from trem to nut, and the trem pocket is accurate.
I just need to move the pickups around a bit and fix the neck pocket...ugh. That's not going to be fun.
After that, I'll work on the trem pocket more and see how things look then.

Yes, always longing for that pink body back. It's actually a copy of the same body I already made, and I'm tweaking it to fit the HM parts.
Much easier than starting from scratch. ;D

Lookin' good Bo!
Not to pee on your parade, but did you think about just setting up your HM body with an OFR, since parts are cheaper & more plentiful instead of the discontinued Spyder? Maybe it's not that discontinued if you can make your own, huh?
I have always felt the fulcrum posts were the Achilles heal of the Spyder. If the Spyder had the same blade pivot design as the OFR more people would have liked it IMO. The post heads have a tendency to wear out fast if you use the tremolo a lot and then you are stuck with a slightly shorter neck scale length (intonation issues?).
I know I'm askin' for trouble by speaking my mind, but if you don't stand up for something, you'll fall for anything.

I don't own a Floyd, so that's not an option.

LOL
It may be a while yet before an Aluminum HM body will be available for sale.
At this point, the whole venture rests on me coming up with the cash to make the first true Aluminum HM.
Then I can sell my prototype (fixed bridge) to raise funds to make the next HM.
At that point, there will be an Aluminum HM body for sale.
I have eBay in mind for these, but rest assured, I will post here for any takers before I put up a public auction.
I worked on the HM body last night, and I will work on it again tomorrow and try to get it buttoned up within the next two weeks.
I'll post updated pics of my progress tomorrow night.
