Hi Alex, welcome to the forum. I just read that the Netherlands have one of the highest living standards in the world. So we're all jealous of you. haha.
Several of us have researched the HM Strats extensively, and it's just hard to say with any certainty what's from where. Some of the people who have done less research are more sure of themselves, if you know what I mean. E8 and E9 are generally Made in Japan, but the HMs with Floyd Rose trems were usually Made in USA. Does it have the digital logo or the cursive-style Strat logo? (For more background, go to the main website www.heavymetalstrat.com and check out the Background page - then look under Model Descriptions.)
Looking forward to seeing pics when you can post some. Probably be easier to tell where it's from if we can see some pics.

Very nice, bsharp!
Your guitars have all been added to the database. Thanks for providing me with the information. I listed them as belonging to username bsharp - do you want your real name in there or anything?
Have recently been looking for pics of the rare HM Ultras. Please - if you can find some time - would you take some really nice shots and send as many as you take? It's getting really hard to find pictures of these today and I need a really nice shot for the Background page over at the main site. Would really appreciate it!
Please send pictures to: info@heavymetalstrat.com

Greetings. I recently started renewing my relationship with my first guitar and am hoping to find out more about it. The serial number is E799312 (haven't yet seen an E number under 8XXXXX on the site) and I believe I bought it in 1987( but it could have been 86-89). It is an all black H/S/S with a 5 toggle and a coil switch. It has a Kohler and a Rosewood neck. It has the big swooshy Strat logo underlined in 80's hot pink with "International Series by Fender" on the head.
I'm wondering where I can find more info on the pickups, particularly the neck pickup, as I'm looking to possibly replace it. For a Fender single-coil neck pickup, it has zero soul. Also, is there anywhere to view wiring schematics / specs. This would help for the pickup replacement as well as help me understand the coil switch function, which is not totally clear to me.
I'm about died laughing when I saw a site dedicated to my guitar's kinfolk. Till now I thought I was the only one sporting this odd Japanese predecessor to the HM. Good job on the site. Any info would be appreciated.

Hmmm. Interesting. I can't remember ever seeing one with an E7 serial number, either.
Does it have 24 frets? Fender Japan made a few forerunners to the HM, but that sounds like an HM.
Fender International Series refers to a set of paint colors produced sometime around then.
You can get a wiring diagram from Nick, as soon as he shows up. Unfortunately, I've never seen any info about the single coil pickups they put in these guitars. I'm using Lace Holy Grails in one I'm rebuilding and Lace Sensor Hot Golds in another. Here's a regular strat style wiring setup without the coil tap switch...

Yeah its 24 fret. I bought it at a Schmitt music somewhere around 1988. Sorry I can't provide a pic, but I have no digital camera. I also just remembered the tone controls have a "stop" or "catch" at 5. I remember the guy who sold me the guitar told me that the 5 on this guitar was the same as 10 on regular strats, and thus the stop. Sounded cool at the time, but now it sounds like "well this amp goes to 11". Any info on the coil switch? Can't seem to distinguish what it does in relation to the position on the 5 toggle switch.

If you go over to my main website, there is a wiring diagram for the coil-split. www.heavymetalstrat.com --> Background Page --> Wiring Diagram for the HM Strat. It doesn't have the TBX tone control though, which is what you're referring to.
The Coil Split works only on the Humbucker, switching to only one of the coils, so you can get the infamous Strat Quack in the 4th Selector switch position.
The TBX does indeed work like a regular tone control from 1 - 5, but at 5.5 to 10 it switches to the top potentiometer which is 1mg value, giving you a much brighter and stronger signal from the humbucker. Mostly, you'd probably want to use 1 - 5 from traditional Stratocaster sounds from the front two pickups, 5.5 - 10 for the bridge pickup.

Hi Neil, Thanks for the info. That is indeed the Model Number. 25-8100 is the rosewood fretboard H/S/S model.

I wonder why my two are F00XXXX and are 1987 models, whilst the EXXXXXXX serial numbers seem to be '88 /'89? Curious!

I'll bet there is a wise old Japanese man at the FujiGen plant who knows the answer ... I'd sure like to be able to talk with him!

Hey Jeff, I'm jealous - I've never played an HM with the OFR on it. They seem to be pretty rare anymore. To double check - that serial number starts with an "I" right?
Nice story to go along with the guitar. I would guess yours was assembled in the USA and that some (or all) of the parts - like the neck - were made in Japan.
Thanks for sharing and if you have any trouble posting the pictures let me know and I'll post for you.
